My approach.

Learn

Understanding a problem is the fundament to solving it. Without knowing we’re just following our gut, which can turn both ways. Intuition and good preparation is the way!

Discover & Dream

Even though boundaries can stimulate creativity. Starting with the thought of what could be, instead of what can’t be is a preferred way to start creating & discovering.

Do

With the gathered learnings from early stages the exciting phase of creating magic is happening. A functional website or a immersive digital experience? Both can be equaly exciting.

Myself.

Next to being out there spending time on two wheels - I like to create products and experiences humans enjoy & use. Doing this with a focus on product, branding & motion design.

When people ask me what I do for a living I usually tell them that I am a designer - which I am. Though I actually find it difficult to put myself into a category. I do a lot of things. I enjoy new experiences & connecting (with) people.

Creating enjoyable & easy to use products or experiences is a tough nut to crack. A complex process of matching business and strategic goals with user goals, wether it’s about a product or brand. I do this by using my 10+ years of experience working in design, while also following my instincts & observations as a designer and human.

I’ve spent countless hours designing & concepting in multiple fields, such as print, advertising, motion and product design. While it’s not always easy, it’s always extremely exciting and fullfilling to partner with a client and see them reach a intended goal or purpose. I’ve naturally transitioned to pruduct & experience design, which is my bread & butter. During this transition I directed multiple design projects, while also guiding & leading other creatives across all digital touch-points.

My journey into the field of design had no traditional start, as I did not follow an education in design. When i was 12 I have used Photoshop for the first time, designing a birthday card for my mother. Which led me to designing & launching my first website when I was around 14. I’ve always been creating, wether analog or digitally. My adventure with design simply started by a combined passion for solving problems, beauty and technology. After a few years in marketing & e-commerce I’ve decided to pursue a career in design. Up to this moment I am very grateful to Steam in Amsterdam, who had trust in me to start this journey.

Today I enjoy life in the suburbs of Amsterdam, being an eager cyclist, motorbike adventurist and all-round explorer of things. Before strolling around in the flatlands of The Netherlands, I’ve spent a bit of my childhood in France. Most of my life up until a young grown up was spent in lovely Cologne, Germany.

I do care about humans and would describe myself as an empathatic, caring person with a love story for mountains. Got to confess some of my guilty pleasures, which include oldschool-rap & Star Wars.

Some thoughts & Answered questions
  • Strategy & design enable opportunities.
Using strategy & design as tools and methodologies can uncover possibilities that we're not possible or very difficult to discover. Design simplifies complex challenges, can focus on important tasks and create conditions for impactful solututions.
  • A few small steps, instead of one big leap.
Crafting a product or service is about exploring, learning & creating. To do this effectively we need to focus on progress, instead of perfection. Making smart choices in incremental steps moving forward is often better than a big step into the unknown.
  • Influencing human behaviour.
Design is a driver to trigger responses of humans. This can come with constrains, on both the human and design side of things. Pushing these constrains towards a positive direction is ultimately what good design should be about.
  • Break the rules, often.
Whatever we have been taught can become or is redundant. Technology is developing rapidly, which means what we've been doing yesterday can be does not have to be the way moving forward. Using current methodologies as a toolbox can solve problems now and in the future, but we should be open to breaking those to progress.
